Introduction to Memory Improvement

Let us begin this journey by looking at what you can achieve...

Imagine if you could go to a party where there are a hundred strangers, and remember every one of their names. Imagine if you could learn all the vocabulary for a foreign language in just a few hours. Imagine if you could grasp a year’s worth of expertise in just a few days. Imagine you could remember the entire street map for your city or the main roads for your entire country.

By training your memory, you can achieve these things.

Improving your memory is one of the greatest keys to success in life. We are constantly engulfed with wisdom, but this is all useless if we forget it. Any great thoughts that you don’t remember are lost forever. And if you don’t remember something there really wasn’t any point in thinking it in the first place.

Most people resort to writing stuff down, but, apart from the inconvenience, this has a more important major flaw. When you write it down you can’t build on it. You can’t use the information other than in the form it is already in. This is fine if you want to write a shopping list, but if you really want to know any subject in depth (be it medicine or getting to really know your friends) you must remember it.

People that write notes just end up with piles and piles of notes. And when it comes to the time when they need the information, they find they must re-read what they had previously read before. This is a waste of your precious time.

Until all this is firmly implanted in your brain, it is merely an assortment of facts. You can reel them off, find out who won the World Cup in 1994, but when you read it off it means nothing. Try reeling off a bunch of facts about your favourite sports team to someone who doesn’t know anything about your sport and you’ll see what I mean. If they are trying to be polite they will try there best to listen to what you are saying, occasionally nodding to pretend they care; but more than likely they will tell you to “SHUT UP!”

Where does this lead? An improved memory means that you can become interested in any subject very quickly, and be able to talk to your friend or clients about their interests with real interest.

It means that you can become an expert in any subject incredibly fast and top of your field in just a little longer. This, of course, leads to greater job prospects and more money. And even greater is the fact that you can do your job in less time and better because your knowledge comes from the top of your head – you don’t have to spend time trying to find books or reports with the relevant information – which must be meticulously cross-referenced. Of course, sometimes you have to check data, or make quotes, but you can use your memory to recall where that information is, and then quickly check it.

To get this kind of expertise you are going to have to work at it and practice, though. The possibilities are big, but they won’t come easy. Luckily the effort you put in can be a lot of fun. There may be times where you find it difficult and frustrating, but generally memory improvement is a very creative and rewarding experience.

Good luck.
